BRIEF HISTORY OF THE UNIT
The Academic Affairs Unit has existed since the inception of the College of Medicine, University of Lagos. It provides administrative oversight and support for academic matters and monitors academic policies as they relate to students in all department.

OBJECTIVE
To evaluate the activities in the Academic Office with respect to keeping and retrieval of Students academic records for easy access and management.

MAJOR ACTIVITIES OF THE UNIT
Students’ Registration
Students’ crossover from the main campus to the Medical College in their second year and their information is captured in the database. In doing this, a student information form is filled and submitted with necessary supporting documents and payment of the required fees. The original copies of the submitted documents are cited to ensure that students’ names are arranged properly

Students’ Records Keeping
The department is the custodian of all undergraduate Students’ files, records of academic activities and archives. It is responsible for storage, retrieval, processing and issuance of the academic records for undergraduates for personal and official use upon request. Academic records are information and documents about a student’s academic career. Below are commonly requested documents with brief definitions. Transcripts, statement of results, scholarship approval, verification of certificates or statement of results or transcripts and issuance of letters of proficiency in English Language.

Transcripts: An official transcript is a certified record of academic work done at the University. It includes courses, grades, and credit hours earned along with any degrees conferred.
Statement of Result: It is an official document that summarizes the student’s final grade.
Letter of Proficiency in English: It is a document requested from a foreign admission seeker to confirm that they can speak, write and taught in English Language.
The department also follows up on the growth and development of its alumni and also recommends them for employment, postgraduate scholarship and admission.

All examinations in the College of Medicine are coordinated by the Academic Affairs office. It is responsible for reproducing examination questions, supplying examination materials, attending Faculty Board of Examiners meetings, processing results to the Academic Board, processing results and scheme of examination through the Business Committee of Senate (BCOS) to the Senate for approval, scheduling lectures and examinations, process request for deferment, leave of absence, sick leave and implement academic misconduct reports after approval.

Coordination of the Induction and Convocation Ceremonies
At the completion of the academic requirements, successful students are processed for induction by their respective Professional Associations and they are issued a provisional license to practice in the profession. The department also processes them for the University convocation ceremony where degrees are conferred upon them.

Issuance of Certificate and Verification
The department coordinates the issuance of certificates to graduates upon completion of their academic requirements and approval by the Senate. It also verifies the certificates of alumni upon request from private and public organisations.
The Academic Office serves as an arbiter on all issues concerning the students and this has propelled it to render top-notch service for academic coherence and the enhancement of the vision of the University of Lagos.
PROCEDURE FOR APPLICATIONS
- Write application letter for transcript, statement of results, letter of attestation and other requests and address it to the “Deputy College Secretary”, (Academic Affairs, CMUL.) and duly signed by the applicant.
- Applications must include the name and matriculation number of the applicants and detailed forwarding address.
- Make appropriate payment online or with any commercial banks in Nigeria with the generated RRR number on remita.
- Evidence of payment should be attached with the application letter and submitted to the Academic Office (Room 005) or through our email: cmulacademic@cmul.edu.ng
- Payment for courier service should be made separately from other payments.
- All documents to be attached (Certificate or 100 Level Statement of Result) should be forwarded to the Academic Affairs office along with the application
THE PROCEDURE FOR PAYMENT
- Log on to the College of Medicine website (www.cmul.edu.ng)
- Click on CMUL payment Portal, then click on “Others”,
- Type in your information on the Tranzgate Page and generate your RRR invoice
- Take RRR invoice to any commercial bank for payment and
- Forward the Remita receipt to the academic office email (cmulacademic@cmul.edu.ng)
