Therefore, the Physiology Department set up one room to breed Laboratory Rats/Rabbits/Guinea pigs under the care of a Laboratory Assistant Mr Olurin and supervised by Chief Laboratory Physiology Technologist Mr Adejayan. With the advancement in knowledge and Research, the Department of Surgery of College of Medicine got involved with various surgical research projects especially in the field of Cardio- thoracic Surgery championed by late Prof Ade Elebute and late Prof Omodare. This led to the building of a modern Laboratory Animal Centre with 2 Animal Theatres, changing rooms and recovery rooms for operated animals.
Presently, pending the completion of the on going building of the world class Laboratory Animals, Centre in the College donated by sir Keshington Adebutu , rat and mice are the major animals being bred in the lab for teaching of students offering courses in the faculties of Basic Medical Sciences and for researches by students and lecturers.
