CMUL COMMENCES CONSTRUCTION OF NEW STUDENTS’ HOSTEL

In a strategic move to address accommodation challenges and enhance student welfare, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, FAS, OON, has formally handed over the site for the construction of a TETFund-sponsored students’ hostel to Coltron Construction Company.

The ceremony, held on Tuesday, April 1, 2026, at the proposed project site, was attended by members of the University and College Management, alongside other key stakeholders.

Speaking at the event, Professor Ogunsola expressed delight at the commencement of the project, noting that inadequate infrastructure has long constrained the training of the healthcare workforce required to meet the needs of Nigeria’s growing population.

She explained that the hostel project was conceived several years ago in response to the need to expand training capacity in line with the increasing demand for healthcare professionals.

The Vice-Chancellor also appreciated the Federal Government for its sustained investment in education and commended the College Management for its continued support and commitment to institutional development.

In his remarks, the Provost of the College of Medicine, Professor Ademola Oremosu, FaMeds, thanked the Vice-Chancellor and University Management for their unwavering support, which enabled the College to benefit from the Federal Government’s Special High Impact Intervention Programme.

He noted that the project would significantly improve student welfare and contribute to strengthening the nation’s healthcare workforce.

Also speaking, the Director of Coltron Construction Company, Dr. Ajulo Anthony, expressed appreciation to the University Management for the confidence reposed in the company. He assured stakeholders of the firm’s commitment to delivering a high-quality project within the stipulated timeframe and appealed for continued support throughout the construction process.

The ceremony concluded with the formal signing of project documents between the Vice-Chancellor and the Director of Coltron Construction Company.

The site handover marks a significant milestone in ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and strengthen the training capacity of medical institutions in Nigeria.
