COLLEGE OF MEDICINE, UNIVERSITY OF LAGOS INDUCTS TWENTY-EIGHT MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENCE GRADUATES

The College of Medicine, University of Lagos (CMUL), marked another significant milestone with the induction of twenty-eight Medical Laboratory Science graduates on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at the historic Old Great Hall of the College.

The induction ceremony was well attended by the inductees, their parents and well-wishers, as well as members of staff and students of the University.

In his address, the Provost, Professor Ademola Oremosu—ably represented by the Deputy Provost, Professor D. O. Odebiyi—on behalf of the Management, staff, and students of the College, warmly welcomed guests to the auspicious occasion. He congratulated the inductees on the successful completion of their studies despite various challenges, and commended their parents and families for providing the necessary support throughout their academic journey.

He also applauded the lecturers for their dedication and commitment to mentoring the inductees into responsible and competent professionals.

The Provost further charged the inductees to uphold the code of ethics of their profession at all times and to serve as worthy ambassadors of the College.

In his remarks, the Acting Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN), Dr. Donald Ibe Ofili, stated that the induction ceremony transcends the conclusion of an academic programme, as it signifies the transition into a highly specialised and globally relevant healthcare profession that underpins effective clinical decision-making, disease surveillance, and public health outcomes.

He commended the Management of the University of Lagos for its sustained commitment to academic excellence and for consistently producing clinically competent graduates, while also demonstrating leadership within the Nigerian and global academic community. He further charged the inductees to conduct themselves in accordance with professional ethics and uphold uncompromising standards in the discharge of their duties.

Highlights of the ceremony included the administration of the professional oath and the presentation of provisional licences to the inductees by the Acting Registrar/CEO of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria.

The event also featured an induction lecture delivered by Mrs. Nkem Ogarawu, as well as the recognition of excellence and presentation of awards to outstanding graduating students.

The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the College Secretary, Dr. Olayinka Obafemi-Moses, who congratulated the inductees and expressed appreciation to the Acting Registrar/CEO of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria, the induction lecturer, and all invited guests for their presence and support.

The induction of the new Medical Laboratory Science graduates represents yet another achievement by the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, in its continued commitment to producing skilled manpower that will shape the future of healthcare delivery in Nigeria.
