CMUL Inducts 44 New Physiotherapists, Emphasises Compassion and Professional Excellence
The College of Medicine, University of Lagos (CMUL), inducted 44 newly qualified physiotherapists into professional practice, charging them to uphold compassion, ethical conduct and excellence in patient care.
The induction took place during the 2024/2025 Physiotherapy Induction and Awards Ceremony held at CMUL, with academics, health professionals and key stakeholders in attendance.
Delivering the induction lecture, the Deputy Dean, Faculty of Health Sciences, North-West University, South Africa, Professor Ushotanefe Useh, described physiotherapy as a calling rooted in empathy, discipline and evidence-based practice. He emphasised the profession’s distinctive hands-on approach to assessment and treatment, noting that skilled manual evaluation remains central to effective patient care.
Professor Useh charged the inductees to uphold core professional values, including ethical practice, legality, clinical excellence, resilience, health advocacy, leadership, inter-professional collaboration and visionary thinking, stressing that these principles are essential for sustained relevance and impact in healthcare.
In his address, the Provost of College, Professor Ademola Oremosu, FAMedS congratulated the inductees and reminded them of the high responsibility attached to healthcare practice, urging them to prioritise patient safety, professionalism and compassion at all times.
Also speaking, the Dean, Faculty of Health Professions, CMUL, Professor Bidemi Tella, encouraged the graduates to embrace lifelong learning and continuous professional development in order to remain relevant in a rapidly evolving healthcare environment.
Similarly, the Director of Physiotherapy Services, Lagos State Health Service Commission, Mr. Sogbamu Olasunkanmi, advised the inductees to uphold the reputation of CMUL and serve as worthy ambassadors of the physiotherapy profession.
The ceremony also featured the presentation of awards for academic excellence. Adewunmi, Iyanuoluwa Esther emerged as the Best Graduating Student, receiving multiple prizes in recognition of her outstanding academic performance, accompanied by cash awards.
The event concluded with the formal induction of the 44 physiotherapists, officially marking their entry into professional practice.
