At a glamorous event on Friday, August 30, 2024, the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria inducted a total of one hundred and twenty three graduates of the College of Medicine, University of Lagos (CMUL), into the prestigious medical profession.
The occasion was graced by principal officers of the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, the Chief Medical Director of Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Professor Wasiu Adeyemo, the University of Lagos Librarian, Professor Yetunde Zaid, invited dignitaries, proud parents, and well-wishers.
In his welcome address, the Provost, Professor David Oke, FAMedS, welcomed everyone to the auspicious event and congratulated the inductees as they marked a significant milestone in their journey, adding that they had made a worthy sacrifice in their journey.
He asserted that the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, has laid a great foundation and instilled true professionalism in the inductees, which he believed will shape them in their chosen profession, and therefore charged them to remember all they have been taught and be good ambassadors of the College of Medicine, University of Lagos.
Professor Oke also acknowledged Dr. Fatima Kyari, the Registrar of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, for making time to perform the induction and oath-taking ceremony, and the Induction Speaker, Dr. Adefemi Gbadamosi, for honoring his invitation.
The Registrar of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, Dr. Fatima Kyari, in her remarks, commended the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, for putting in place a conducive learning environment without compromising acceptable standards.
She also acknowledged the support of the lecturers and other members of staff who ensured the sustainability and production of the human resources the country needed.
She congratulated the inductees on the successful completion of their studies and thanked the parents for their moral and financial support.
She reminded the inductees about the code of conduct and ethics of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria and admonished them to ensure the renewal of their practicing licenses.
The Registrar further reminded them to immerse themselves during the period of their housemanship, uphold the solemn promise of the oath of the medical profession, and always stay updated, as the medical profession is a lifelong pursuit.
The Induction Guest Speaker, Dr. Adefemi Gbadamosi, in his exhortation, charged the new Doctors to conquer fear and see it as an opportunity and breath of life to aspiration.
The climax of the 2021/2022 Medical/ Dental Induction ceremony was the Oath-Taking and Affirmation conducted by the Registrar of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria and the presentation of certificates to the inductees.
In their valedictory speeches, the representatives of the Medical and Dental graduates thanked the College of Medicine, University of Lagos management, lecturers, and their parents for their significant contributions to their lives. They admonished themselves to give back to their alma mater and announced the establishment of an endowment fund in memory of their late colleague, Mr. Christian Amadi, who passed on during their journey.
The 2021/2022 Induction Ceremony also featured the sashing ceremony and presentation of awards and prizes to the best-graduating students.
The event also had the presence of the Deputy provost, Professor D.O.
