FACULTY OF CLINICAL SCIENCES, COLLEGE OF MEDICINE, UNIVERSITY OF LAGOS HOLDS 19TH ANNUAL SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE AND GATHERING
The Faculty of Clinical Sciences, College of Medicine, University of Lagos, held its annual scientific conference and gathering, marking the 19th edition of this prestigious event.
The two-day program commenced with a faculty gathering at the Marriott Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, followed by a scientific conference at the Old Great Hall, College of Medicine, University of Lagos on Tuesday, 16th and Wednesday, 17th July, 2024 respectively.
The Faculty gathering featured a lecture titled “Maternal and Fetal Health: A Haematologist’s Perspective” delivered by Prof. Vincent Oluseye Osunkalu, of the Department of Haematology and Blood transfusion, marking a historical achievement for the Faculty. The 19th Annual scientific conference included clinical and poster presentations by scholars from various departments in the Faculty of Clinical Sciences, showcasing their research studies and contributions to the larger body of knowledge.
In his opening speech, the Deputy Provost/LOC Chairman, Prof. Daniel Odebiyi, who also represented the Vice Chancellor and Provost of the College, described the gathering as a demonstration of collective effort, resilience, commitment, and dedication of members, colleagues from allied Faculties, friends, collaborators, partners, and stakeholders within and outside the University.
He expressed appreciation to the Vice-chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, friends of the Faculty, stakeholders, partners, collaborators, and well-wishers for their attendance. He highlighted how Artificial Intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing healthcare, urging participants to garner meaningful insights.
The conference featured a lecture on “Artificial Intelligence in the Clinical Sciences: Shaping the Present and Influencing the Future” by Prof. Mohammed Olawale Amuda, Director of the Adewale Adetokunbo Sofoluwe Center for Information Technology and Systems, UNILAG.
The lecture highlighted the historical impact of AI and technology in Clinical Sciences and their future implications, emphasizing the need for integrating AI into Clinical Sciences, including telemedicine, disease onset prediction, and patient outcomes.
Professor Folasade Akinsola, Dean Faculty of Clinical Sciences in her welcome speech acknowledged the presence of all attendees. She described the 19th Annual Scientific Conference and Gathering of the Faculty as an opportunity to discuss research findings among other intellectuals and asserted that the Faculty of Clinical Sciences has made significant strides in the last one year in the publication of quality academic work. She appreciated the efforts of all past Deans, Faculty members, organising Committee for the conference as well as retired staff members who have contributed to the success of the Faculty.
The event also featured Award presentations to serving and recently retired staff members, for their remarkable service to the Faculty of Clinical Sciences and the University of Lagos at large.
The event was graced by notable personalities such as the Chief Medical Director of LUTH/Co-Host, Professor Wasiu Lanre Adeyemo; Dean of the Faculty of Dental Sciences, Dr. Oluranti DaCosta; former College Provost and current MDCN Board chairman, Prof. F.E.A Lesi; representative of the Registrar, University of Lagos, Mr. Keshinro; Professor Akin Osibogun, and a host of staff, students, and scholars.
