DELEGATES FROM IMPERIAL COLLEGE, LONDON PAID A COURTESY VISIT TO THE MANAGEMENT OF THE COLLEGE OF MEDICINE, UNIVERSITY OF LAGOS

On Wednesday, June 26, 2024, the College Management, led by the Deputy Provost, Professor D. O. Odebiyi, who represented the Provost, Professor David Adewale Oke FAMedS, played host to a delegation from the Imperial College of Science, Technology, and Medicine, United Kingdom, who were on a site visit to the College of Medicine, University of Lagos.

Dr. Obianuju Ozoh of the Department of Medicine ,College of Medicine, University of Lagos, and the Nigerian site lead, who led the delegation informed the management that her research group recently won the National Institute of Health and Care Research Global Health Program grant to conduct a study on integrating TB and respiratory services in Africa, and her research collaborators were in the College to assess the resources available to support the grant and ways to implement the research. She added that the grant is a four-year multi-country study, with a Ph.D. to be domiciled at the University of Lagos as a key component of the grant and also providing support for masters students.

Dr. Jamilah Meghy, a Respiratory Clinician and Lecturer at Imperial College, also outlined the details of the research initiative and emphasized that the grant is multidisciplinary and would encompass not only research but also capacity building, which is crucial for sustainable development and long-term impact.

In his remarks, the Deputy Provost, Professor Odebiyi, welcomed the guests to the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, and expressed his delight for the inclusion of capacity building in the program. He extended his gratitude to the delegates for their collaborative gesture and the opportunities it promises for the College of Medicine and Nigeria at large.
