Wondfo, a leading company in the point-of-care testing (POCT) industry from China, paid a visit to the College of Medicine, University of Lagos on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, to explore partnership opportunities. The delegation led by Professor E.C. Azinge, Head of the Clinical Pathology Department, included Bear Xing, Country Manager, Leo Xu, Company Director, and partners from Kenya and Nigeria.
The delegation was received by the Provost, Professor David Adewale Oke, FAMedS, in the company of the College Secretary, Dr. Olayinka Obafemi-Moses, and the Director of Engineering Services, Engr. Olatunbosun Oloyede.
During the visit, the Wondfo team presented their vision to equip the institution’s laboratories with state-of-the-art equipment, aiming to enhance professional skills and provide hands-on training for students and staff.
This initiative also serves as a brand promotion for Wondfo and will provide opportunities for undergraduate and postgraduate students, researchers, faculty members and trainees tocollaborate with their counterparts from China, fostering innovation in technologies that address local health challenges. The partnership also aims to enhance knowledge of diagnostic medicine through exposure to world-class diagnostic machines and their utilization.
The initiative, which is the first of its kind by the company in Lagos, Nigeria, follows a similar project launched at the University of Nairobi and Kenyatta Hospital, both in Kenya, in 2022.
The Provost, Professor David Oke, expressed gratitude for the visit and emphasized the need for swift action to establish the partnership and requested the drafting of a memorandum of understanding to facilitate further discussions.
