THE MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENCE COUNCIL OF NIGERIA (MLSCN) INDUCTS COLLEGE OF MEDICINE, UNIVERSITY OF LAGOS GRADUANDS
The Department of Medical Laboratory Science, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, College of Medicine, University of Lagos, held its 7th induction and awards ceremony for newly qualified medical laboratory scientists on Friday, December 22, in the Old Great Hall of the College of Medicine, University of Lagos. The ceremony was graced by the management of the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, led by the provost, Professor David Oke, FAMedS, and invited dignitaries, families, and friends of the graduands.
The provost congratulated the inductees for successfully completing their studies and their teachers for the efforts they put into teaching and mentoring the students. Professor Oke charged the inductees to make integrity their watchword and to be good ambassadors of the College of Medicine, University of Lagos. He further reminded them to always uphold the Code of Ethics and Rules of Professional Conduct of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN). In his remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, Professor Oluyemi Akinloye, expressed his delight at being part of the story and history of the celebrants. He stated that the Department of Medical Laboratory Science, since it’s establishment by the University Senate in 2016 has continued to demonstrate commitment to the growth and development of capacity in the country. He thanked the management of the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, for all their efforts in continuing to enrich the products being produced by the College of Medicine.
Also in his speech, the Registrar/CEO of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria, Dr. Tosan Erhabor, ably represented by Mr. Gregory Uchuno, stated that the induction ceremony represents a veritable framework for the younger generation to succeed the current actors, who are bowing out of the stage gradually, having set the stage for the future. The Registrar acknowledged the University of Lagos as one of the foremost citadels of learning, contributing enormously towards the growth and development of the country. He commended the inductees for their efforts so far and admonished them to brace up for the huge responsibilities coming their way, adding that such responsibilities also come with rewards. The highlights of the ceremony were the presentation of the twenty-five graduands by the Head of Department of Medical Laboratory Science, Professor K.S.O. Oyedeji, to the Registrar of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria for the oath-taking and induction into the profession, and the presentation of awards to the best graduating students and Guest Lecturer.
Other members of the management and staff present were: the college secretary, Dr. Olayinka Obafemi-Moses; Director of Finance, Dr. S.A. Akinade; Ag. Medical Librarian, Dr. Blessing Ukachi; Director of Engineering Service, Engr. O. Oloyede, University Librarian, ably represented by Dr. Gbemi Ogunleye. Dean, Faculty of Clinical Sciences, Professor (Mrs.) F.B. Akinsola, Dean, Faculty of Dental Sciences, Professor O. daCosta, Professor A.J. Akindele, Professor D.O. Odebiyi, and other members of staff and students.
