ASSEMBLY OF ADMINISTRATIVE AND EXECUTIVE OFFICERS OF THE COLLEGE OF MEDICINE, UNIVERSITY OF LAGOS UNVEILS 2ND EDITION OF “SUSSURRI,” – OUR VOICE MAGAZINE

The Assembly of Administrative and Executive Officers of the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, held the unveiling of the 2nd edition of SUSSURRI – Our Voice Magazine and Professional Lecture on Thursday, September 21, 2023, in the Old Great Hall of the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, Idi Araba, Lagos.

The second edition of the magazine was a follow-up to its maiden edition, launched on Thursday, November 18, 2021.

The Vice-chancellor/Chief Host, Professor Folasade Ogunsola OON, FAS, acknowledged the College of Medicine management and welcomed everyone in her address. She applauded the courage of the General Assembly of the College of Medicine Administrative and Executive officers for not allowing the prolonged strike and the prevailing economic situation in the country to dampen their spirits, adding that the SUSSURRI magazine is not about publishing a magazine but building capacity and ability to compete in the future.

The Host/Provost, Professor David Adewale Oke, FAMedS, welcomed everyone to the auspicious occasion and reiterated the vision of the University of Lagos to be a top-class institution for the pursuit of excellence in knowledge, character, and service to humanity, in line with the vision of the 13th and first female Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Professor Folasade Ogunsola to build the 21st century University of Lagos of our dream by making it future-ready and a fit-for-purpose workforce. He charged members of the Assembly to maintain a high standard of professionalism, good conduct practice, etiquette, and discipline.

He also recognised and congratulated the immediate past Registrar of the University of Lagos, Oladejo Azeez, Esq., who was instrumental to the birthing of the Administrative and Executive Officers Assembly, and also extended his appreciation to the College Secretary for sustaining the tradition of his predecessor.

Earlier in his opening speech, the College Secretary who is the Chairman of the Assembly of the Administrative and Executive officers of the College, Dr. Olayinka Obafemi-Moses, warmly welcomed everyone to the unveiling of the 2nd edition of the SUSSURRI Magazine and Professional Lecture. He explained that “SUSSURRI” is a Italian word that means “our voice” (to whisper), and appreciated everyone who supported and partnered during the launch of the maiden edition of the magazine.

He noted that the 21st century has come with a paradigm shift from the traditional way of administration into the realm of digitalization and artificial intelligence, and therefore enjoined everyone to put all hands-on deck and reposition themselves.

The College Secretary thanked the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, and the Provost, Professor David Oke, FAMedS, for the love, encouragement, and opportunity given through Coursera, acknowledging that the programme has been impactful.

Also in his welcome speech, The Team Lead for the production of the 2nd edition of the SUSSURRI magazine, Mr. Olufemi Hodefe, stated that the SUSSURRI -our voice magazine is borne out of the passion, commitment and dedication to the advocacy for life-long learning attitude among the Registry staff of the University of Lagos, which specific term is to promote a continuous reading and learning culture among the Administrative staff and Executive officers of the University and other stakeholders through the sharing of resourceful information that will impact individuals’ life as members of the university community, inspire professional development and improve our system processes and procedures.

The chairman of the occasion, Dr. (Mrs.) Modupe Elebute-Odunsi, Founder & CEO Marcelle Ruth Cancer Centre and Specialist Hospital, expressed her joy for the honour accorded her to be the chairperson of the occasion and appreciated the Provost and the College Secretary for inviting her to chair the occasion.

The professional lecture with the theme “Optimisation of the University Registry Processes with New Age Technology: Automation, and Artificial Intelligence” was well delivered by Dr. Oluseye Ajayi, who represented the keynote speaker, Dr. Prosper Okonkwo, CEO, APIN Public Health Initiatives Nig. Ltd.

The highlight of the event was the unveiling of the 2nd edition of SUSSURRI magazine, the recognition of retired members of staff, and the presentation of awards and sashing of the principal officers of the College, Panelists, Special Guests, as well as the SUSSURRI magazine production team.

The event also featured a Panel Session that had Mrs. Josephine Aderonke Asiwaju, Deputy Registrar, Staff Training and Development Centre, UNILAG, sharing her perspective on the imperativeness of continuous training and self-development for adapting to the Era of New Technology, and Mr. Ayomide Ikechukwu Daniels, an IT/AI specialist, intimate the audience on the importance of alignment with emerging technologies for effectiveness in the workplace.

The event was well attended by the Deputy Provost, Professor O.A.T. Ebuehi, Director of Finance; Dr. S.A. Akinade, Ag. Medical Librarian; Dr. N. B Ukachi, Director of Engineering Services, Engr. O. Oloyede, Ag. Registrar, Mrs. Olakunle Makinde ably represented by Mr. Matthias Udonwa, Director, Sir Arthur Mbanefo Research Centre/Former Registrar; Dr. (Mrs.) T.F. Ipaye; immediate Past Provost, Professor F.E.A. Lesi; members of CMUL SSANU and NASU Idi Araba Branch, Association of Secretaries and Data Processing Officers, ANUPA, other non-teaching departments/units and skating members of the administrative and executive officers of the College, COMPSSA President, and other members of staff, KB Klub and students.
