COLLEGE OF MEDICINE UNIVERSITY OF LAGOS NORTH AMERICA ALUMNI ASSOCIATION DONATES TO THEIR ALMA MATER
As part of their contribution to the development of the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, the CMUL North America Alumni Association on Thursday 27th April, 2023 presented the donation of Library Reference Books to their alma mater. The donation was received in the Board Room of the College by the Provost, Professor David A. Oke, FAMedS and other members of the management.
In his welcome remarks, the Provost, Professor David A. Oke, stated that the visit was long awaited and he expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the wonderful gesture of the Alumni, specifically thanking the President, Dr. Gertie Chimeka-Anyanwoke.
The Provost acknowledged the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the University of Lagos Governing Council, Senator (Prince) Dr. Lanre Tejuosho who was instrumental to the donation of the books and also the Chairman of the College of Medicine Court of Governors, Dr. Aderemi Desalu, mni. He commended the achievements of the College of Medicine Alumni across the world and assured that the books will be well fully utilized, describing the donation as another example of a leaving lasting legacy which our Alumni all over the world are known for.
The President of the North American CMUL Alumni Association, Dr. Gertie Chimeka-Anyanwoke thanked everyone present and expressed her delight for coming back to the College of Medicine. She acknowledged the Provost for his involvement in Alumni activities and admitted that the College of Medicine University of Lagos has provided them with fond memories.
Dr. Gertie informed that a lot of College of Medicine Alumni are willing to give back to the College and therefore, sought the cooperation of the College of Medicine Alumni Association especially in the area of research collaboration, adding that opportunities are abound in research grants. She also reiterated that the Alumni Association is trying to do a fund raising for the 60th anniversary and a Year Book for everyone that graduated from the College of Medicine in the last sixty years in order to raise fund to support the College.
The Chairman of the College of Medicine Alumni Association Caretaker Committee, Professor Ademola Oremosu, also thanked the management of the College of Medicine, Dr. Gertie and other Alumni members present. He said that he was proud of the College of Medicine Alumni Association both within and outside the College, and acknowledged that the College of Medicine has been blessed with Alumni in terms of Administration.
Professor Oremosu commended the immense support from Philanthropists, Alumni and Tetfund, adding that it’s more important for Alumni to contribute, and therefore advised the current students of College of Medicine to look back after their studies.
The College Secretary, Dr. Olayinka Obafemi-Moses in his closing remarks also appreciated the President of the College of Medicine North American Alumni Association, Dr. Gertie and other Alumni members within and outside the Country. He prayed that God replenishes them and wishes them more success in their endeavours.
In attendance were the; Deputy Provost, Professor O.A.T. Ebuehi, Director of Finance, Dr. S. A. Akinade, Director of Engineering Services, Engr. O. Oloyede, Ag. Medical Librarian, Dr.N. B. Ukachi, members of the 1998 Alumni set and the COMPSSA executives.
