The project was executed by Robert Johnson Investment Limited under a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) arrangement with the College, transforming the former Visitors’ Lodge into a modern hospitality facility designed to enhance accommodation and service delivery for guests of the College and the wider University community.

The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor F.E.A. Lesi; the Registrar, Mrs Bosede Wickliffe; the Provost of CMUL, Professor Ademola Oremosu; the immediate past Provost, Professor Adewale Oke; the Director of Academic Planning, Professor Bammeke; members of College Management; and other distinguished guests. The Group Executive Director of Robert Johnson Investment Limited, Barrister Deborah Arowolo, was also present.

Speaking at the ceremony, the immediate past Provost, Professor Adewale Oke, expressed delight that the project, which commenced during his tenure, had progressed to completion. He commended Robert Johnson Investment Limited for fulfilling its obligations under the agreement and transforming the former Visitors’ Lodge into a first-class hospitality facility. He described the commissioning as a gratifying moment, reflecting the progress made since the project’s inception.

The Provost, Professor Ademola Oremosu, expressed satisfaction with the project’s continued development during his tenure. He commended Robert Johnson Investment Limited for the quality of work delivered and appreciated the Vice-Chancellor for her visionary leadership and presence at the ceremony. He noted that the completed facility represents a valuable addition to the College’s infrastructure and hospitality capacity.

In her remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, recalled that during her tenure as Provost, she had envisioned outsourcing the former Visitors’ Lodge to improve its management and service delivery. Although the initial plan was not fully realised at the time, some of the existing rooms were renovated for use as a lodge. She expressed satisfaction that successive Provosts sustained the vision, leading to the development of the facility, the commissioning of its first phase, and the completion of the second phase. She commended Robert Johnson Investment Limited for the transformation, describing the project as a testament to continuity in leadership and sustained institutional vision.

The Group Executive Director of Robert Johnson Investment Limited, Barrister Deborah Arowolo, welcomed guests to the commissioning and expressed appreciation to the College Management for the confidence reposed in the company. She reaffirmed the company’s commitment to developing the Medilag Guest House into a distinguished hospitality destination, offering comfort, quality service, and a memorable experience for its guests.

The Build-Operate-Transfer arrangement highlights the value of strategic collaboration between the College and private-sector partners in developing institutional infrastructure and improving service delivery.

A major highlight of the ceremony was a tour of the completed facility by the Vice-Chancellor, the Provost, the immediate past Provost, university officials, members of College Management, representatives of Robert Johnson Investment Limited, and invited guests. The tour provided an opportunity to inspect the accommodation spaces, amenities, and improvements delivered through the second phase.

The commissioning of the second phase of the Medilag Guest House represents a notable achievement in CMUL’s infrastructural development. The facility is expected to strengthen the College’s hospitality services and support its academic, administrative, and professional engagements, including visits by academics, researchers, conference participants, and other stakeholders.
