CMUL NORTH AMERICA ALUMNI ASSOCIATION COMMISSIONS SOLAR ELECTRIFICATION PROJECT FOR STUDENTS’ HOSTELS

In a significant boost to student welfare and infrastructure development, the CMUL North America Alumni Association officially commissioned the Students’ Hostel Solar Electrification Project at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos (CMUL) on Wednesday, July 29, 2026.

The solar power project provides sustainable electricity to four hostel blocks, covering a total of 196 student rooms. The initiative is designed to improve power supply within the hostels, enabling students to charge their electronic devices and enjoy a more conducive living and learning environment. Speaking at the ceremony, the President of the CMUL North America Alumni Association, Dr. Chinedu Nweke, expressed satisfaction with the successful completion of the project and acknowledged the contributions of his predecessor for initiating the intervention.

He disclosed that plans were underway to extend the solar electrification project to additional hostel blocks and reaffirmed the Association’s commitment to supporting the College through impactful developmental projects that enhance students’ welfare and academic experience.

In his remarks, the Chief Medical Director of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Professor Wasiu Lanre Adeyemo, commended the CMUL North America Alumni Association for the laudable initiative. He noted that reliable electricity is essential to students’ well-being and academic success and appreciated the Association for its continued investment in infrastructure that directly benefits the College community.

The Provost of the College, Professor Ademola Oremosu, also expressed profound appreciation to the Association for its generosity and commitment to improving students’ welfare. He encouraged the students to take ownership of the facility by using it responsibly and adhering strictly to the operational guidelines to ensure its sustainability for future beneficiaries.

The ceremony concluded with the official commissioning and inspection of the solar electrification project by the College Management, members of the CMUL North America Alumni Association, and other invited guests. The project marks another milestone in the Association’s enduring commitment to supporting the College’s development while providing students with a more reliable and sustainable power supply for learning and everyday living.
