CMUL ALUMNI CLASS OF ’98 AWARDS SECOND EDITION OF RESEARCH GRANTS TO STUDENTS

In a bid to stimulate interest in research and promote clinical excellence towards improving patient care, the CMUL Alumni Class of ’98 awarded the second edition of the YBC Class of ’98 Research Capacity Endowment Fund to ten deserving students of the College of Medicine, University of Lagos (CMUL). The presentation ceremony was held on Friday, July 24, 2026, in the New Boardroom of the College, in the presence of the College Management, members of the Alumni Class of ’98, staff, and the student beneficiaries.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the YBC Class of ’98, Dr. Dayo Omogbehin, commended the maiden beneficiaries for their prudent use of the research grants, noting that the success of the inaugural edition inspired the alumni to sustain the initiative.

He reiterated the Class’ commitment to nurturing the next generation of clinician-researchers through mentorship and capacity building. He also expressed appreciation to the College Management and members of the YBC Class of ’98 for their unwavering support towards the success of the initiative.

In his remarks, the Provost of the College, Professor Ademola Oremosu, expressed profound appreciation to the YBC Class of ’98 for investing in the future of the College through research. He noted that the initiative would encourage more students to embrace research as a vital component of medical education and healthcare advancement.

The Provost also commended the alumni for their remarkable achievements and acknowledged their previous donation of a solar power inverter to the College Auditorium in 2023. He briefed the alumni on various student empowerment initiatives within the University and ongoing development projects in the College.

He further encouraged members of the Class to mentor the award recipients while advising the beneficiaries to maximise the opportunity and broaden their research interests beyond the traditional boundaries of medicine. Also speaking, the Chairman of the CMUL Alumni Caretaker Committee, Professor U.A.C. Okafor, thanked the YBC Class of ’98 for their continued commitment to giving back to their alma mater. He urged the student beneficiaries to make the most of the opportunity by conducting impactful research that would contribute meaningfully to healthcare and society.

The event concluded with the presentation of research grants to the ten student beneficiaries, reaffirming the YBC Class of ’98’s dedication to fostering a vibrant research culture at CMUL. The initiative is expected to inspire more students to pursue innovative research while strengthening the enduring partnership between the College and its alumni in advancing medical education and healthcare development.
