HISTORY AND ACTIVIES OF STUDENTS’ AFFAIRS
STRUCTURE
The Directorate of Students’ Affairs oversees the administration of the Students’ Affairs Unit. The Unit is made up of:
- Students’ Affairs Office
- Halls of Residence (Hostels)
- Counselling Unit
The Students’ Affairs Unit is run by highly qualified and trained staff headed by the Acting Director of Students’ Affairs, Dr. O.B. Bankole from the Department of Surgery.
CORE DUTIES OF THE STUDENTS’AFFAIRS UNIT:- The Unit oversees mostly the extra-curricular and social life of students on the campus.
- The Students’ Affairs Unit:
- Is responsible for students’ guidance and counselling needs.
- Oversees the administration of Halls of Residence, including accommodation of students.
- Coordinates Students’ Union activities including organizing Students’ Representative Council elections and swearing-in of elected members of the executive.
- Coordinates the mobilisation of prospective National Youth Service Corps members from the College.
- Oversees the disbursement of bursary awards to students by various organisations and state governments.
- Administers the Indigent Students’ Fund which is meant to assist students from less priviledged backgrounds.
- Is in the forefront of the fight against violent cultism and drug abuse which have destroyed the prospects of rather promising students.
- Liaises with the Teaching Hospital to assist students with special health issues.
- Tries as much as possible to resolve conflicts among students to ensure a peaceful atmosphere on the campus.
- Oversees all sports infrastructure and organization of sporting activities on the campus.
- Registers new associations and socio-cultural groups and monitors their activities.
- Processes the registration of Medical and Dental graduates with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.
- Plays a leading role in the organization of induction ceremonies for students into the various medical professional bodies.
