The University of Lagos, again, has justified its sobriquet as the “University of First Choice and the Nation’s Pride.”
This is coming on the heels of the critical invention of Ambuvent, a ventilator designed to reduce mortality arising from complications of COVID-19 infections.
The prototype was created from scratch by a Research Team of Doctors, Engineers and Technicians. The Ambuvent is an improvement over existing ventilators.
It runs on a 90-watt motor, making it a more efficient option and all its component parts were locally sourced. The ventilator can also supply oxygen to the patient for a maximum of two weeks non-stop, without electricity.
With the Ambuvent, the University of Lagos has made another significant contribution to the global fight against COVID-19, and the institution is resolved to keep living up to its mandate to serve the larger society with critical inputs and application of knowledge.
Some members of the research team include: Professor Abdulhakeem Amuda, Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Dr. Olutola Olatosi, Acting Head, Department of Anaesthesia and Mr. Timilehin Adebayo of the Department of Physics.
The College of Medicine, University of Lagos is proud of its association with this project and celebrates the spirit of intra-Departmental and Faculty collaboration across the University.
