Professor Boniface Olubunmi George, a retired Professor or Cardiology in the Department of Medicine, College of Medicine, University of Lagos died on Tuesday, 13th April ,2021 at the age of 84 Years. He was born on the 6th of October, 1936.
He attended St. Gregory College, Lagos, from 1949-1954, Nigerian College of Arts, Science and Tech, Ibadan (1955-57), Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland (1957-1963), Queens University, Belfast (1968-1970) and the University of Toronto, Canada (1975-1976) for his educational pursuit.
He held various Professional qualifications such as; L.M., L.R.C.P., L.R.C.S., (1), Ireland, 1963, F.W.A.C.P. (1976), F.RC.P. (Ireland) 1978, and F.A.C.C. (1979).
He also won numerous prizes during his studies among which includes; the 1st recipient of Leonard Abrahamson Gold Medal in Medicine.
The late Professor of Cardiology joined the service of the College of Medicine, University of Lagos in 1973 as Lecturer Grade 1. He was promoted Senior Lecturer in 1975, Associate Professor in 1983 and full Professor in 1986.
He was a consultant to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), a position he held till retirement.
The late Professor B.O. George was also a former Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), Lagos university Teaching Hospital for four Years.
His funeral arrangement will be announced in due course.
