The College of Medicine, University of Lagos is hosting a 3-day Bioinformatic workshop been organised by the Building Research and Innovation in Nigeria’s Science (BRAINS). A workshop which is designed to educate academic staff on ways to collate biological data and use information technology to interpret and analyse these data for the improvement of healthcare. The workshop, which has 35 participants, starts today and will end on Thursday 5th December 2019.
The Provost, Professor F.E.A. Lesi declared the workshop opened as he delivered a short address to the participants. He appreciated the BRAINS team for its series of capacity building to academic staff members in the College. Speaking on the importance of bioinformatics, the Provost, expressed the need for data collection, organisation and using this information to make critical decisions to healthcare. He, therefore, urged the participants to make good use of this opportunity to improve their skills for better career advancement.
Also, Professor W.L. Adeyemo (Chairman Medical Advisory Committee LUTH) gave a brief overview, and the logistics involved in Bioinformatics while Professor A.A. Osuntoki of the Department of Biochemistry delivered the first lecture on Bioinformatics concepts and its applications in healthcare.
