NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF HEALTH RESEARCH’S GLOBAL SURGERY UNIT, NIGERIA HUB PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO THE PROVOST OF THE COLLEGE OF MEDICINE, UNIVERSITY OF LAGOS
A team from the National Institute of Health Research’s Global Surgery Unit, led by the Executive Director and Professor of Surgery at the University of Birmingham, Professor Dion Morton, pays a courtesy call on the Provost, Professor David Adewale Oke, FAMedS in his office on Thursday, July 27, 2023.
The purpose of the visit was to explore areas of collaboration, share the outcomes of trials and studies, and exchange ideas on advancing surgical care.
In his remarks, Professor Dion Morton stated that it’s a privilege to visit the University of Lagos and Lagos University Teaching Hospital and expressed his delight to collaborate with the College of Medicine, University of Lagos. He added that the University of Lagos is among the three groups of premier universities in Nigeria selected to carry out research projects and expressed his willingness to work with the University of Lagos to make it more competitive and visible among other ivy leage universities.
He also suggested ways to work with the University by building networks in order to raise her profile and informed of the plan to launch an M.Sc. and joint Ph.D. programmes as well as trainings in various areas of research.
The Provost, Professor David Adewale Oke, welcomed and commended the visitors. He acknowledged that the visit has provided opportunities to further move forward and promised to give the necessary support and assistance to achieve the outlined goals.
In attendance were the Dean, Faculty of Clinical Science, Professor F. B. Akinsola; College Secretary, Dr. O. A. Obafemi-Moses, FNIM; Director of Finance, Dr. S. A. Akinade; Hub Director, NIHR GSU, NIGERIA Hub, Professor Adesoji Ademuyiwa; Dr… Farida from University of…. Ghana, and other members of the NIHR Global Surgery Unit.
