The Department of Radiation Biology, Radiotherapy and Radiodiagnosis, Faculty of Clinical Sciences, College of Medicine University of Lagos was host to Professor Moses Adebayo Aweda 70th Birthday and Retirement celebration held on Wednesday, February 2, 2022. The Deputy Provost, Professor O.A.T. Ebuehi on behalf of the Management, Staff and Students welcomed the celebrant Professor M.A. Aweda and the guests at the Old Great Hall of the College of Medicine University of Lagos Idi-Araba. In his opening remarks, he appreciated Professor M.A. Aweda’s contributions to the growth of medicine. He said he is a man who has seen it all and conquered the world of medical physics not only here in the College of Medicine but globally. He is delighted to be invited to the special occasion in honor of Professor Aweda, a distinguished and accomplished academia, medical physicist, a Professor of Radiation Biology,  researcher per excellence, a loving husband, father and grandfather. Professor Ebuehi further highlighted that Professor M.A. Aweda joined the College of Medicine, University of Lagos in 1993 as Lecturer Grade 1 in the Department of Radiation Biology, Radiotherapy and Radiodiagnosis and Radiography, and rose steadily to the rank of a Professor in 2014. He is a man of many feats, a foremost pioneer of Medical physics in the College of Medicine, University of Lagos and elevated to the post of full chair. The First academia to deliver the first inaugural lecture in the history of the Department of Radiation Biology, Radiotherapy, Radiodiagnosis and Radiography. From 1994 till date he has trained a great number of medical physicists. He supervised 152 master’s graduates, 6 masters in philosophy graduates and 11 PhD graduates. His legacy of hardwork, perseverance, professionalism and excellence are evidence in the great numbers of brilliant academics he has mentored and trained over the years. The Dean, Faculty of Clinical Sciences Professor Mrs F.B. Akinsola congratulated Professor M.A. Aweda. She wished his retirement to be peaceful, healthy and for him to enjoy his nuclear, extended family and grandchildren. The keynote speaker, Dr. Taofeeq A. Ige (PhD, FIOMP) thanked all the mentees of the celebrant, who deem it fit to put the retirement celebration together. He said he is a great man, humble and selfless, and that he has done honorably in the area of medical physics through his dedication and commitment in Nigeria and has laid a solid foundation to the nation Nigeria and world-wide. Professor Moses Adebayo Aweda gave the closing remarks and thanked the department, friends and well wishers for this wonderful gesture bestowed to him to be celebrated while alive. The Retirement Reception were graced by the; Deputy Provost,Professor O.A.T. Ebuehi, College Secretary, Dr. O. A. Obafemi-Moses, Faculty of Clinical Sciences,Professor (Mrs.) F.B.
