3rd ANNUAL LECTURE OF ABIMBOLA AINA OMOLOLU-MULELE ENDOWMENT IN OBSTETRICS AND GYNAECOLOGY



 

The Provost, Professor F.E.A. Lesi, on Thursday 31st October 2019, welcomed the family and guest to the 3rd Annual Abimbola Aina Omololu-Mulele Lecture in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. He appreciated the family for keeping faith with the Will of the deceased through the endowment to the University of Lagos. 

The Chairman, Emeritus Professor (Chief) Osato Giwa-Osagie, welcomed guests with a brief history of the deceased. He spoke highly about the care for women and children while encouraging guests to invest in the endowment program of the University. The Vice Chancellor, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, FAS ably represented by Professor F.T Ogunsola FAS, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Development Services), expressed thanks to the family for investing in research through the University of Lagos and for stimulating public discussion through the title chosen. Also, the Chairman Board of Trustees, Distinguished Professor, Babajide I. Alo and Director, Office of Advancement, Oluwarotimi O.A. Shodimu Esq. expressed appreciation for the turnout.  Professor Olusegun Tokunbo Fabanwo (Chief Medical Director LASUTH), the Special Guest of Honour and Emeritus Professor J.T. da-Rocha-Afodu (Family representative), gave a short speech about the guest speaker and the late (Mrs) Omololu Mulele (nee da-Rocha Afodu). 

The guest speaker, Professor Oladosu Ojengbede, is a professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology from the University of Ibadan. A one-time acting Vice Chancellor and Provost of the College of Medicine Ibadan. He is currently the Director of STD Training programmes and Center for Population and Reproductive Health, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan. Professor Ojengbede delivered a sublime lecture on “Sexual and Reproductive Health of Girls and Women in Nigeria: Critique of Investment, Policy, and Practices.”  

The highlight of the lecture was the presentation of a 3.5 Million Naira research grant to Dr. Babah Ochuwa Adiketu of the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology from the Abimbola Aina Omololu-Mulele Endowment. 

Late Mrs. Frederica Abimbola Omololu-Mulele (nee Da Rocha Afodu) was a renowned educationist, lawyer, and philanthropist. She endowed Thirty-six Million Naira each to Late Ladipo Mobolaji Abisogun Afodu Memorial Annual Lecture in Pharmacy and the Abimbola Omololu-Mulele Memorial Annual Lecture in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Lagos as her legacy gift to the institution in her last will. She died on the 19th of May, 2009.
