PROVOST COMMENDS 400 LEVEL PHYSIOTHERAPY STUDENT FOR RESCUING ACCIDENT VICTIMS ON EKO BRIDGE



The Provost, Prof. F. E. Lesi has commended Miss Jemima Osunde, a 400 Level student of the Department of Physiotherapy of the College for her heroic action on Sunday, 9th July, 2017 when she rescued three accident victims on the Eko Bridge in Lagos.
The Provost, who together with the Deputy Provost, Prof. S.R. A. Akinbo received the heroine and the Acting Head, Department of Physiotherapy, Dr. B. A. Tella in his Office commended the courageous and humanitarian action of Miss Osunde stressing that after reading in The Punch Newspaper of Tuesday, 11th July, 2017, he decided to invite her to the office to appreciate her personally for doing the College proud for not driving off but choose to stop, call the police to assist in conveying the victims to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba.

 

According to him, Miss Osunde’s timely intervention had brought credit to the College and the University of Lagos and exemplifies what our products are. He noted that her courage and decisiveness are examples for others to emulate and commended her parents for the values she demonstrated.

The Deputy Provost in his remarks, said that the courage of Miss Osunde is something that has brought honour to the College and the University of Lagos which he would want both the College and the University to publish in the various Institution’s news media in the face of the negative news reports about the University in the Country’s news media.

 

In her reply, Miss Osunde said that she did not see what she has done as a ‘big deal’ and she acted in the belief that the victims could have been one’s family member. According to her, she made a down payment at the Accident and Emergency Department which was later refunded by the families of the victims. She thanked the Provost for the recognition which is in addition to the various encomiums she had been receiving from people including the former Minister of Education, Dr. Obiageli Ezekwesili.

 

The Ag. Head of Department of Physiotherapy, Dr. B. A Tella in her remarks, thanked the Provost for the recognition.
