OJO ROLAND OLUWAPELUMI CMUL FINAL YEAR MEDICAL STUDENT MAKES UNILAG PROUD AT THE UNITED NATIONS YOUTH ASSEMBLY



The Provost, Professor F.E.A. Lesi on Friday 15th September, 2017 formally received in his Office Roland Oluwapelumi Ojo, a final year Medical student of the College of Medicine, University of Lags who made the College and the University proud at the United Nations Youth Assembly which took place between 9th and 13th August, 2017 of the United Nations Headquarters in New York, USA.

In his remark, the Provost told Mr. Ojo that ‘it is a great thing when you represent not only your University but also your country’. According to him, with the award, he should strive to actualize his dream. The Provost also told Mr. Ojo that the award shows that he is recognized; noting that the credit is his but the College shares in it and that it shows that the quality of our student is great.

Mr. Roland Oluwapelumi Ojo’s Social Venture for Action proposal at the conference and his idea “Safer Hands” was selected among the seven winners from different continents of the world and one of the two winners from Africa (the other African being a Mauritian).

According to him, Safer Hands aims to Educate and Empower traditional birth attendants in South-Western Nigeria to enhance good outcomes in pregnancy.

He was awarded a Resolution Fellowship and $1,500 grant to startup the idea with access to more seed funding and opportunities.
