CHAZVY, CMUL COLLABORATE WITH NCDC AND ROBERT KOCH INSTITUTE TO PRESENT A SYMPOSIUM



On Friday, June 14, 2019 the College of Medicine, University of Lagos and the Center for Human and Zoonotic Virology (CHAZVY) organized a symposium to collaborate with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Robert Koch Institute on the theme “Strengthening Control of Infectious Diseases in Nigeria: The Robert Koch Institute Initiatives”. It had in attendance the President of Robert Koch Institute, Professor Lothar Weiler, as the guest speaker.

The Provost of the College of Medicine, Professor F.E.A. Lesi, who hosted the event, welcomed the distinguished guests and expressed the support of the College of Medicine for the program.

Professor Sunday Omilabu of Medical Microbiology and Parasitology, gave an overview of the collaboration between the Center for Human and Zoonotic Virology (CHAZVY) and the College of Medicine, University of Lagos. The Deputy Vice Chancellor (Development Services), Professor Sade Ogunsola also gave a presentation titled “An Overview of MAURICE Project and Collaboration with CMUL IPC Curriculum. Afterwards, Dr Joshua Obasanya of the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) also made a presentation on the NiCaDe Project: Maximizing the Benefits, Harnessing National Potentials and Building Enduring Partnerships.

The President of Robert Koch Institute, Professor Lothar Weiler’s lecture was on “Strengthening Control of Infectious Diseases in Nigeria: The Robert Koch Institute Initiatives”.

The Acting Dean of the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, Professor Oluyemi Akinloye gave the vote of thanks on behalf of the Management of the College of Medicine and thanked the guests and other participants for attending the programme.

The dignitaries that attended the programme were: Provost of the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, Professor F.E.A. Lesi, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Development Services), Professor Folasade Ogunsola, Director General of National Institute of Medical Research (NIMR), Professor Babatude Salako, Consular General of German High Commission, Dr. Stefan Trauman, the President of Robert Koch Institute, Professor Lothar Weiler, Representative of the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr. Joshua Obasanya, Representative from Lagos State Ministry of Health, Dr. Ismail Abdul-Salam and Professor Sunday Omilabu of Medical Microbiology and Parasitology College of Medicine University of Lagos.
