CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR THE HUBERT HUMPHREY FELLOWSHIP
PROGRAM, 2020/2021 ACADEMIC YEAR
The Public Affairs Section of the United States Consulate General in Lagos is pleased to announce
the annual call for applications for the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program, 2020/2021
academic year. The primary funding for the fellowship is provided by the U.S. Congress and it is
sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
Although the Humphrey fellowship is not a research focused program eligible faculty and university
administrators can apply under the following program fields; Educational Administration, Planning
and Policy; Higher Education Administration; Teaching of English as a Foreign Language as well as
Substance Abuse Education, Treatment and Prevention.
Program Overview: The Hubert Humphrey Fellowship is a specialized exchange program for
accomplished mid-career professionals. The fellowship takes mid-career professionals from
designated countries, including Nigeria to the United States for one-year long non-degree graduate
level study program focuses on leadership development, and professional collaboration with the U.S.
counterparts at select U.S. universities. The objective of the fellowship is to provide Humphrey
fellows with an overall experience that broadens their perspectives, enhances their capability to
assume greater career responsibilities, and provides opportunities to establish useful professionals
contacts. The selection process and final award of grants are extremely competitive.
Program Timeline: Application opens on April 1, 2019. The strict deadline for submitting the online
application with supporting documents is June 1, 2019.
