The Management of the University of Lagos hereby clarifies the following on the issues of Academic Staff Annual Leave:
1. Management wishes to reiterate that it encourages all staff to rightly take their annual vacation as and when due at suitable times during the session/year, subject to appropriate recommendation of the Heads of Departments and Deans of Faculties who must ensure that the teaching and research Activities of the Department must not be disrupted.
2. For avoidance of any doubts, the Leave earning period is from 1st October of a year to 30th September of the following year. However, in accordance with Councils’ approval, members of staff are allowed to utilize their Leave up till 31st March of the following year.
It is understood that due to exigencies of duty, some members of staff may be unable to take advantage of this extension and can therefore apply to bank such unutilized days. Consequently, approval must be sought on/or before 31st March for the banking of such unutilized leaves, or portions thereof.
3. Research Leave earned in the year cannot be banked and are not transferable.
4. The modalities of utilization of banked leave days are being worked out and all staff will be advised accordingly later.
